Some of my Favorite Ronald Reagan Quotes-

“I have wondered at times what the Ten Commandments would have looked like if Moses had run them through the US Congress.”

“I have only one thing to say to the tax increasers: Go ahead, make my day.” —March 13, 1985, in a speech threatening to veto legislation raising taxes.

“There is no question that we have failed to live up to the dreams of the founding fathers many times and in many places. Sometimes we do better than others. But all in all, the one thing we must be on guard against is thinking that because of this, the system has failed. The system has not failed. Some human beings have failed the system.” – June 21, 1973

The 9/12

The 9 Principles

1. America Is Good.
2. I believe in God and He is the Center of my Life.
God “The propitious smiles of Heaven can never be expected on a nation that disregards the eternal rules of order and right which Heaven itself has ordained.” from George Washington’s first Inaugural address.
3. I must always try to be a more honest person than I was yesterday.
Honesty “I hope that I shall always possess firmness and virtue enough to maintain what I consider to be the most enviable of all titles, the character of an honest man.” George Washington
4. The family is sacred. My spouse and I are the ultimate authority, not the government.
Marriage/Family “It is in the love of one’s family only that heartfelt happiness is known. By a law of our nature, we cannot be happy without the endearing connections of a family.” Thomas Jefferson
5. If you break the law you pay the penalty. Justice is blind and no one is above it.
Justice “I deem one of the essential principles of our government… equal and exact justice to all men of whatever state or persuasion, religious or political.” Thomas Jefferson
6. I have a right to life, liberty and pursuit of happiness, but there is no guarantee of equal results.
Life, Liberty, & The Pursuit of Happiness “Everyone has a natural right to choose that vocation in life which he thinks most likely to give him comfortable subsistence.” Thomas Jefferson
7. I work hard for what I have and I will share it with who I want to. Government cannot force me to be charitable.
Charity “It is not everyone who asketh that deserveth charity; all however, are worth of the inquiry or the deserving may suffer.” George Washington
8. It is not un-American for me to disagree with authority or to share my personal opinion.
On your right to disagree “In a free and republican government, you cannot restrain the voice of the multitude; every man will speak as he thinks, or more properly without thinking.” George Washington
9. The government works for me. I do not answer to them, they answer to me.
Who works for whom? “I consider the people who constitute a society or a nation as the source of all authority in that nation.” Thomas Jefferson

This is our Chore Central.  The kids each have daily chores to complete as seen below monkey chart (pictures next to words to help with the little one who cannot read yet).

After each chore they receive a sticker to place on their Day box  (Mon-Sun).

If after they have completed their required chores they would like to earn more stickers for the day- then they can chose a chore from above the monkey chart.  There are Fun Chores mixed in with Real ones.  In example, one “fun” chore may be to name a movie with 5 dogs, or how many licks does it take to get to the center of a lollipop- or even draw an art picture / do a book report.  The kids can lose stickers (demerits) for behaviors that violate the house rules.  Their goal is to fill up one of the day boxes, which equals $5.00 for them- it is harder than it seems : ) If each box (Mon-Sun) gets filled it is worth $35.00 for them- though in reality it will take them weeks to accomplish a box for each day.  I created this chart in response to the kids wanting “items” while we are out shopping- now they are in control of earning their own money, which they can spend or save as they see fit : )

As of May 10, 2009-

A high school student (Chad), from Capistrano Valley High School in California, won his case : ) Against a high school teacher, Corbett who violated the first amendment rights (the establishment clause) which states that an employee of a public school cannot ban or promote hostility towards religion.  The sad part of this case is this teacher has been teaching for over 20 years- imagine how many influential children he has affected.

Today is National Day of Prayer!!!

The Below is adopted from-

http://www.nationaldayofprayer.org/home/home.html

The History Of National Day Of Prayer

Because of the faith of many of our founding fathers, public prayer and national days of prayer have a long-standing and significant history in American tradition. The Supreme Court affirmed the right of state legislatures to open their sessions with prayer in Marsh vs. Chambers (1983).

The National Day of Prayer is a vital part of our heritage. Since the first call to prayer in 1775, when the Continental Congress asked the colonies to pray for wisdom in forming a nation, the call to prayer has continued through our history, including President Lincoln’s proclamation of a day of “humiliation, fasting, and prayer” in 1863. In 1952, a joint resolution by Congress, signed by President Truman, declared an annual, national day of prayer. In 1988, the law was amended and signed by President Reagan, permanently setting the day as the first Thursday of every May. Each year, the president signs a proclamation, encouraging all Americans to pray on this day. Last year, all 50 state governors plus the governors of several U.S. territories signed similar proclamations.

The National Day of Prayer is Significant

The National Day of Prayer has great significance for us as a nation. It enables us to recall and to teach the way in which our founding fathers sought the wisdom of God when faced with critical decisions. It stands as a call to us to humbly come before God, seeking His guidance for our leaders and His grace upon us as a people. The unanimous passage of the bill establishing the National Day of Prayer as an annual event, signifies that prayer is as important to our nation today as it was in the beginning.

Like Thanksgiving or Christmas, this day has become a national observance placed on all Hallmark calendars and observed annually across the nation and in Washington, D.C. Last year, local, state and federal observances were held from sunrise in Maine to sunset in Hawaii, uniting Americans from all socio-economic, political and ethnic backgrounds in prayer for our nation. It is estimated that more than two million people attended more than 40,000 observances organized by approximately 40,000 volunteers. At state capitols, county court houses, on the steps of city halls, and in schools, businesses, churches and homes, people stopped their activities and gathered for prayer.

The National Day of Prayer is Ours

The National Day of Prayer belongs to all Americans. It is a day that transcends differences, bringing together citizens from all backgrounds. Mrs. Shirley Dobson, NDP chairman, reminds us: “We have lost many of our freedoms in America because we have been asleep. I feel if we do not become involved and support the annual National Day of Prayer, we could end up forfeiting this freedom, too.”

History Summary

1775 – The first Continental Congress called for a National Day of Prayer
1863 – Abraham Lincoln called for such a day.
1952 – Congress established NDP as an annual event by a joint resolution, signed into law by President Truman (82-324)
1988 – The law was amended and signed by President Reagan, designating the NDP as the first Thursday in May (100-307).

Fun Facts

1) The President of the United States has called for a National Day of Prayer every year since 1975.

2) There have been 134 national calls to prayer, humiliation, fasting and thanksgiving by the President of the United States (1789-2008).

3) There have been 56 Presidential Proclamations for a “National Day of Prayer” (1952-2008).

4) Gerald Ford (1976) and George H. Bush (1989-91) are the only U.S. Presidents to sign two National Day of Prayer Proclamations in the same year.

The Forming of Obama’s Secular America May 7, 2009

Ultra Liberal David Hamilton is one of Obama’s new liberal appeals court appointees.  David is a former fundraiser for ACORN.  If you remember, Acorn is the organizations charged with fraudulent ballots during the 2008 Presidential election.

In addition, according to www.prayinjesusname.org

“Judge Hamilton wrote: “The injunction orders the Speaker…that the prayers should not use Christ’s name or title or any other denominational appeal…If those offering prayers in the Indiana House of Representatives choose to use the Arabic ‘Allah’…the court sees little risk that the choice of language would advance a particular religion or disparage others.

In other words, Judge Hamilton ruled the words “Jesus” or “Christ” are illegal words, prohibited for public speech, banned by the First Amendment, which somehow prohibits freedom of religious expression, and makes Christian prayers ILLEGAL in a public forum. (What crazy version of the First Amendment is he reading?)”

Do we see the type of people that Obama is surrounding himself with- this is only one example.  I wonder if Obama will observe today as National Day of Prayer?
