All About Spelling/ Homeschool April 19, 2009

I ordered this product specifically for my oldest daughter (11 years old) who needs the damage undone from a public school “lack” of education.  It has quickly became one of our favorite homeschool curriculums.  We have discovered that reading and writing are two different skills.  While my daughter could breeze through many books, she was having difficulties with actually writing a majority of her words.  It pained me to see her struggle so much when she has such a love for Literature.  What we found out was that she was spelling phonetically the way she heard the words pronounced.  Well on some words this is not adequate.  In example, try to spell “consequence “the way you hear it.  How about “Jewelry“? Now you get my point.  Within the first two lessons my daughter understood that anytime you write a q there will be a u behind it.  It is simple rules like this one that has enabled my daughter in spelling efficiently.  I had been looking for a program like this for almost a year when I stumbled across All About Spelling.  I believe in this program so much that I have become an affiliate for All About Spelling.  What I found out was it is not only good for my oldest daughter but also my 9 year old son, my 7 year old daughter and soon it will come in handy for my soon to be 5 year old daughter.  All about Spelling is a Multi-Sensory program, so it works well for my auditory learner, my kinesthetic/ tactile learner, and my visual learner, which eliminates the need to buy multiple products.  I especially LOVE that there is no need to buy the program more than once, as it is reusable over and over again for all age levels.  Some programs you buy, you must buy another set of books for each individual child- this is not the case with All About Spelling.  Anyway, here is some additional information below straight from All About Spelling.

The answer you’ve been seeking for teaching spelling…

“The Multisensory Spelling Solution”

100% Guaranteed

All About Spelling is a logical step-by-step program that will put your child on the fast track to spelling.

Say goodbye to hours of lesson planning each week. All the research has been done for you and translated into fantastic scripted lesson plans. (You will teach like an EXPERT from Day 1.)

Reach the visual learner, auditory learner, and kinesthetic learner…and you don’t even have to know which learning style your child has. (This is a super-effective method of teaching that takes advantage of how the brain works.)

Learn strategies for ACTIVELY involving your child in the lessons…so you can keep his or her attention without trying so hard.

Solve the “Transfer Problem.” Getting the words right on a test is not the same as being able to spell the words correctly in real life. A simple-to-use technique solves this problem…and helps kids learn AND apply much better.

Discover a simple little tip that automatically insures that kids know whether to use J, G, or DGE for the sound of /j/ at the end of a word. This tip – and dozens of others like it – REALLY simplifies spelling

Use manipulatives to help spelling concepts really sink in. Join the homeschooling families who have completely turned their children around and made them excited about learning. (You can make it EASY and FUN for your child to learn from you, too.)

Avoid the biggest obstacle in learning spelling: most spelling curricula unknowingly make it much more difficult than it needs to be. All About Spelling simplifies the process of spelling…and allows your student to learn quickly

Build your child’s long-term memory using two very effective techniques – intensity and frequency. You’ll learn EXACTLY how to do this…

End “Suffix Confusion.” With this fail-safe method, adding suffixes becomes crystal clear.

I of course am busy gathering resources to accomplish our broad choice of subjects.
